*James 1:2-4 ~ From trials to maturity*

2. My brethren, count it all joy in the various trials to which you may be exposed, 3. knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4. But patience must accomplish its work perfectly, so that you may be perfect and complete, failing in nothing.

God sometimes allows his people to undergo great trials, even those who might be considered his favorites. We think of the harsh command he gave Abraham and the affliction he allowed Job to suffer. Other times He sends trials as a form of judgment on those who have rejected Him.

This world is not our home. Our hope is not in the things of this world. Trials are equivalent to the testing of our faith. God can use trials to test our faith.

Why are trials a source of joy? Because they make us more complete; they make us more like Jesus!

To receive the benefits of maturing through our trials, we must first recognize that God put them there, or allowed them to be there, for our benefit. If we don't do this, we miss the opportunity to grow.
